SBELC

The CEFR aligned Standards-Based English Language Curriculum (SBELC), an international standard curriculum enabled by the collaboration between the Ministry of Education, Malaysia (MOE) and Cambridge English, United Kingdom (CE).
It is aligned with CEFR which is defined as the Common European Framework of References and has been used by many countries as a reference for language teaching, learning, and assessment.
The SBELC document includes the syllabus containing key components of lessons which are themes, topics, content and learning standards, cross-curricular elements, differentiation strategies, and assessment standards.
SBELC is a base for recognizing students’ progress and capability in many aspects namely listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Their standards of learning comprehension will be labeled at a certain level using SBELC from preschool to secondary levels. A1 and A2 or Basic User; B1 and B2 or Independent User; and C1 and C2 or Proficient User.
As indicated in Malaysia Education Blueprint 2013-2025, it is really important for students to have skills in order to keep pace in a rapidly emergent global economy hence SBELC can be used as a guide for teachers to have ideas on knowing and improving students to achieve the benchmark.
