ENTRY 2

According to Melor (2018), technology plays a big factor of the development of pedagogy where it enables teachers to reflect

on their teaching. There are also other examples of technology mentioned and the usage of smartphone for learning purposes. For example, app like Whatsapp and Telegram enable them to communicate with other students and also teachers

How does it can be used in an ESL classroom?

According to West (2012), technologies of mobile learning have the potential to transform the educational field in favor of learners as the ability of students to have access on internet using their smart phones, tablets or laptops are able to create great learning opportunities for them in different aspects. What we can take from that sentence is that it is definitely a great way to expand not only students but also teachers' skills. However, compared to tablets or laptops, smartphones are way easier to use and they also provide the users with computer-like functionality and also internet access. According to one survey in 2011 in Budapest Business School, one in every three students learning German as a second language owned a smartphone; in 2013 it had been recorded that almost half of the students have a smartphone.

Therefore, since smartphones have many reliable sources and apps that can be found and are widely used, we can take this as an opportunity to use it in a situation where for example students have been given 10 minutes to find an article related to a topic or find a video in a duration less than 30 minutes and then explain to the class what is the video is all about. The objective of it can be seen as a test for students' listening skill and their time management.
